New YouTube Channel: Retro Hack Shack

Aaron Newcomb/ August 6, 2020/ News, Shows, Vintage Computers, YouTube Channel

I started a new YouTube channel today! I have been hooked on restoring and collecting vintage computers and game systems for the past few years. I host a monthly meeting at the Makerspace I founded in the town where I live and a nice little community has developed. Making has roots in tinkering and fixing things, so this is a natural hobby for me to pick up.

The new channel will focus on the many projects that I now have in my backlog such as:

  • Tandy Computer History Series (I haven’t seen anyone do this yet)
  • Using a mid-2000 machine to bridge the gap from early DOS to Windows 10
  • How to use Linux to troubleshoot and fix retro storage issues
  • 486 computer build
  • Putting emulators in cheap handhelds
  • Tools for repairing/restoring vintage computers Beginner/Expert
  • Designing custom PCBs
  • Designing and 3D printing parts for vintage systems
  • Designing reproduction artwork
  • Silicon Valley company history (similar to this)
  • Where to buy vintage computer stuff for cheap
  • RGBtoHDMI with raspberry pi
  • Making an external cable for IBM 5150 (done)
  • Build a transparent bar top arcade cabinet
  • Bartop to standup arcade conversion

I have converted this (until now) seldom used site into the home for the Retro Hack Shack so that I can list more detail and information about the projects I am working on, the tools I use, and other stuff.

Please check out my new channel. I would really appreciate if you could like, subscribe, and comment on the videos, so I can get this thing off to a good start 🙂 If you feel like supporting this effort, you can sign up on my Patron page where you can vote on upcoming content, get early access to new videos, eliminate embedded ads, and more.
